NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
Grade 6 the students read; the begining of unit 2 Pauvre Alphonse. The story is about a prized piglet who gets stolen at a fair. There are a lot of descriptions of clothing and people.
Homework is to study the vocabulary, the spelling and everyone should be able to use the colour adjectives.
Mini quiz on Thursday, Oct. 15
Grade 7 the students read a story aobut a stolen song and how they were able to re-trace how it was stolen. Everyone took turns at reading and their comfort level for reading aloud is greatly improving.
The big lesson today was about le passé composé of regular verbs and a few irregular ones as well.
Homework, study le passé composé, review its formation, study p.164 for irregular past participles. Mini-quiz on Thursday, Oct.15
Grade 8 The students read 'un groupe de discussion' from Cris et Frissons. and answered well a few questions. The lesson today was Le passé composé of irregular verbs. They had a lot of practice!
There is mini-quiz on Thursday on the use of passé composé p218 of the textbook.
Grade 9 The students read the last 3 chapters (independently) and have the list of 'expressions idiomatiques' sheet to complete.
They also brainstormed questions to use in their interview of their parents. This is part of their final task where they will take on the role of parents and their parents are the children.
Grade 10/11 took up their homework on discours direct et indirect. They also had a short lesson on passé simple. This is a verb tense that is used in formal historical texts.
They also independently read Les enfants du marais and watch a short clip of this film.
La tâche finale is to find a movie they particularly liked and do a film critique.
On Thursday they will get the rubric to work on their text and presentation.
Grade 12 Write a letter of opinion to the editor and the topic is Bio-diversity.
Thursday will be used to edit the text before presentation.

IMPORTANT DATES
NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
Today the teachers were hard at work planning and here are a few important dates for up and coming events.
-October 13, all students will be expected to wear their full uniform (blazer, shirt, tie...) Please refer to the student handbook if you are not sure of what and how to wear it.
-October 23rd, Parents Guild are offering a movie night at 7pm.
-October 28/29 Bake Sale!! This is a fund raising initiative for the MYP Lab. equipment. Please support this activity as everyone will benefit.

Happy Thanksgiving, Bonne Actions de Grâces
NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
Grade 6 read a selection titled Translingua. The students found several idioms and discussed the pit falls of using Google translation as opposed to the dictionary. Homework, finish answering the questions from the comprehension segment.
Next week, they will be starting a unit on clothing, disguise and the theft of a piglet! They will be playing the role of an investigator and describe suspects.
Grade 7 worked on possessives adjectives. They copied a grid and practiced both in oral and written activities. They also had a preview of the next unit where they will have to play detectives and solve a crime.
Grade 8 read a selection from the gr.9, Anthologie:Les Dangers de l'Internet.
They discussed and answered a few questions.
They also had a look at the next unit, which will start next week.
Grade 9 worked the last activity of chapter 3 and used l'imparfait and provided an ending according to information provided in the text.
Grade 10/11 students worked on the plus-que-parfait, examined the grammar rule, then they explored the 'discoours indirect'. Several students were able to come up with the rules (as supplied in the Anthologie grammar section). They are practicing their inquiry skills.
Grade 12 the main topic for this unit lends itself very well to use the 'subjonctif'. The next step is a letter to the editor.

Bonjour!
NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
Grade 6 started the morning by receiving their past quiz and assignments back. For the most part, the students demonstrated that they studied and reviewed the units components. They also had time to complete a questionnaire on the vocabulary. They also found out how to make maple syrup the way it used to be done by researching it in their textbook.
Grade 7 completed a read and comprehension module. There four stories about well known fast-food restaurant chains. Then, the students were divided into 2 groups and played a lively round of connect-four verb game. Today, the girls won.
Grade 8 presented their Web/Facebook about themselves and a service they offered to the public. They demonstrated a lot of creativity and each had an interesting service that reflected their personal interest. This was followed by a class discussion on how powerful the Internet can be and whether the information put out reaches only the targeted audience or unwanted viewers.
Grade 9 read 'La poursuite', chapter 3, and researched the vocabulary from the selection. They have the comprehension segment to complete for homework, due Thursday, Oct. 8.
Grade 10/11 continued their lesson with L'imparfait and plus- que- parfait. It took quite some time to get through this lesson, but for the most part, they were able to establlish the rule of grammar. Well done!
Grade 12 There was some hard work and research done to decipher the subjonctif present. Le Figaro offers an excellent site for irregular verbs. These verbs are best when memorized as their stems may vary. But it is all worth it in the end.

They also completed the mini quiz on idioms/expressions.
Grade 7 are presenting their casse-croûte concept and if we are unable to listen to all of the presentations, we will finish on Tuesday. This will be followed with a class discussion about who was their audience and a reflection about their attraction to food related to their respective ethic background or their tendency to move towards more canadianized/americanized cuisine.
Grade 8 should be finished with their class/seat work on their Web page and complete a quick quiz on reflexive verbs.
Grade 9 They have Tech. course today.
Grade 10 They have Tech. today.

Grade 6 the students have been learning and practicing Les Adjectifs Possessifs.
This is not an easy concept because everything in French has a gender.
There will be a short quiz on the unit's idioms/expressions. The students have been practicing in class.
Grade 7 Students will start to give their presentations (La tâche finale) on a casse-croûte concept on Friday. BECAUSE OF WE DAY FIELD TRIP, PRESENTATIONS WILL COMMENCE ON FRIDAY. Following this segment, the students will read and answer questions about several fast food restaurants, their owner/founders and humble begining.
Grade 8 Several students are away to WE DAY. So, the students remaining will discuss a reading of L'exploitation des enfants, a text about how the movement started. Students will also have extra practice with reflexive verbs.
