NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 completed the questions and family word sections for the story Un vol à la Banque Royale. The students were very motivated to work this morning. Bravo! They also had a lesson on numbers. they told me that Math in French was fun.

Grade 7 The students brainstormed a bit about the use of animals in medecine. They began to read aloud the first part of the unit and everyone was using good diction and intonation. They also completed a grid of information for each animal and this will be very useful at a later date in their final project.

Grade 8 were given 2 short dictation to test their ability to write what they hear. They then did all the corrections. They started to read about Les monstres and they discussed what is very scary in movies and how it differs from many years ago at the begining of film making.

Grade 9 The lesson today was on the pronouns ON, Y, EN,.  They took a lot of notes and practiced quite a bit.

Grade 10/11 worked on adverbs and expressions of quantity. Their homework is to write a recipe for tomorrow.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 Students did not have French class today. They were on a field trip to the R.O.M.

Grade 7 The students have presented their mystery story.

Grade 8 The students have been practicing using verbs with prepositions such as à and de followed by verbs at the infinitive. This will require some practice.
Homework: Please write 5 sentences from each colomn (so 10 in total). Use the verbs and the correct preposition à or de and write a sentence to demonstrate you understand the meaning.

Grade 9 / 10 / 11 There was an assembly in the auditorium for Remembrance Day. We had about 15 min. left and we discussed a bit about the French culture and how it relates to the students own culture.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 This morning's assembly ran a bit longer than usual but, all the presentations were done. Special thank you to Audrey for helping our newest student get through her work.
We also had time to read a story about a robbery. The comprehension segment will resume on Tuesday. THEY HAVE NO HOMEWORK! And, there was a lot of cheering.

Grade 7 worked on their story. It is due on Tuesday, Nov.10.
Make sure you use irregular verbs au passé composé, adverbs...

Grade 8 The students are completing a cross-word with vocabulary related to the unit on crime and investigation.
Next week, They will be starting on Les monstres in films.

Grade 9 The students worked on the relative pronouns ce qui, ce que, dont. It can be tricky but with practice it should become second nature.

Grade 10,11 The text today was La bouffe qui ment. How much chemical agents are used in our food. This is an ethical question opened for discussion.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 The students took a mini-quiz on expressions with avoir. Overall, they did well and to re-inforce the activity, they drew HENRY and gave the character every expressions they could think.

Grade 7 They reviewed their web of information (this was homework). They also received their rubric, which is their guideline for their story. The requirements are: 5 passé composé verbs with irregular verbs (avoir, faire, prendre...), 3X adverbs and follow the sheet you were working on today.
Thursday, you will have the  period to work and show your rough copy.
due date is Tuesday, Nov.10

Grade 8 Today is presentation day! The students demonstrated their knowledge and creativity and more importantly, how they colloaborate on a project.
The presentations were followed by team critiques.
The rest of the period was spent with a team game to review the vocabulary from the unit.

Grade 9 worked on the relative pronouns: qui, que, ce qui and ce que. It took some time and the grade 10/11 used this activity as a refresher.

Grade 10/11 worked on the 'si' clause. They were able to get through this in the end. WELL DONE AND GREAT COLLOABORATION!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 The students were hard at work learning expressions with avoir. They will have a short quiz on Tuesday.
They also caught up on Tuesday's work since several students were away at soccer. They are able to compare physical features from children to their parents and grand-parents.

Grade 7 have completed the writing of made up stories using pre-arranged words and pictures. They worked in different groups and although they had the same material to work with, the stories were all quite different.
Homework is to fill in the story web for their project. The rough drafts will be done in class next Tuesday.

Grade 8 The students have polished their scripts and had time to rehearse their lines. I had a few suggestions, made a few practice their pronunciation.
Here is the checklist for this project: invitation card, identity card for the detective, police report and script. 
The students who had finished, watched parts of the movie TINTIN.

Grade 9 Continued with new unit, Les parfums. They worked at finding family words, antonyms and answered questions. If you are not finished, please complete this segment for Tuesday.

Grade 10/11 We were missing a few students (busy with the bake sale). They worked at the reading and comprehension components of La poutine. They started to learn about which verb to use with the conditionnel 'SI'.

Aujourd'hui, nous avons fait....

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 Several students were away to a soccer tournement. The rest of the class reviewed the verb 'porter'. We are continuing to describe what we wear, work on adjectives and their agreement with the nouns.
A warm welcome to Aly who is new to the class.

Grade 7 The students learned the difference between sortir and partir and how to conjugate them. Also, they learned how to form adverbs. Homework, complete p.28 and 78.

Grade 8 This week, the students are putting their final touch to their 'soirée mystère. They are polishing the various items needed and on Thursday they will have a rehearsal before presentation on Tuesday, Nov.3.

Grade 9 have started a new unit on perfume. The object is to have two camps: on promoting a  new perfume and one banning the use of perfume or scents. Knowing these students, this could be interesting.
After reading the text: answer questions 1,3,5,6.

Grade 10/11 many of the students were away helping with the Bake Sale. Please read La poutine, make sure you understand the text, soresearch the vocabulary.
