Bonjour!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 started the morning by receiving their past quiz and assignments back. For the most part, the students demonstrated that they studied and reviewed the units components. They also had time to complete a questionnaire on the vocabulary. They also found out how to make maple syrup the way it used to be done by researching it in their textbook.

Grade 7 completed a read and comprehension module. There four stories about well known fast-food restaurant chains. Then, the students were divided into 2 groups and played a lively round of connect-four verb game. Today, the girls won.

Grade 8 presented their Web/Facebook about themselves and a service they offered to the public. They demonstrated a lot of creativity and each had an interesting service that reflected their personal interest. This was followed by a class discussion on how powerful the Internet can be and whether the information put out reaches only the targeted audience or unwanted viewers.

Grade 9 read 'La poursuite', chapter 3, and researched the vocabulary from the selection. They have the comprehension segment to complete for homework, due Thursday, Oct. 8.

Grade 10/11 continued their lesson with L'imparfait and plus- que- parfait. It took quite some time to get through this lesson, but for the most part, they were able to establlish the rule of grammar. Well done!

Grade 12 There was some hard work and research done to decipher the subjonctif present. Le Figaro offers an excellent site for irregular verbs. These verbs are best when memorized as their stems may vary. But it is all worth it in the end.

As a visual, they will create a coloured picture of a still from their film and write 5-6 sentences. If it is not completed during class, it is homework due Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Grade 7 worked on their casse-croûte concept during the French period. Next week they will peer edit and then present it to the class (I told them it would be Dragon's Den style). They really liked this idea. Homework will be to have their rough copy ready for peer editing on Tuesday and then Thursday, October 1st we start the presentations.

Grade 8 students were working very hard this morning and it was great to see that almost everyone came prepared with great ideas for la tâche finale.  They worked on their rough copy and many had questions and needed to clarify a few things. Homework due on Tuesday, Sept. 29 is to finalize their casse-croûte concept well written (it could be typed, double space, font 14) so that on Tuesday they will be peer-editing. Presentations will start on Thursday Oct. 1 and all work and presentation NO EXCEPTION) should be turned in at that time.

Grade 9 students continued working with l'imparfait and it is starting to sink in. Their assignment is to write an event and demonstrate the correct use of l'imparfait versus le passé composé. Also, make sure that you know the irregular verbs in l'imparfait. This is due on Tuesday, Sept 29.

Grade 10/11 They had a discussion about who GillesVigneault is and about his artistic contribution to the French Canadian scene. The teacher read the first part of the novel 'Jean-Dan'. A discussion about family ties followed. Homework is: answer questions 1 and 2 of the expansion. You are asked to research and give your opinion in relation to the story.

Grade 12 text was a really interesting write up on bio-diversity. The terminology was very specific and challenging but demonstrated the fine line that exists when ecosystems are interfered with.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 the students took up the homework corrections and for the most part it was very well done. Then, they read about different films, how to rate them by using the correct terminology.
for homework, please think of a title for your movie and what it is about for our work on Thursday.

Grade 7 are still on the verb unit but they are becoming more comfortable with multiple subjects. Good work!
Today, they also received their rubric for la tâche finale. Most of the work will be done in class but for ...
homework: bring in your ideas for your casse-croûte.

Grade 8  The reach ahead programme requires our students to step up out of their comfort zone and demonstrate a bit of independence. Today, we followed up with a reading of a dream about the worst day. Last week we had discussed the ideal day. They went over reflexive verbs once more and now they have a choice to describe their best/worst day ever!
Homework is to describe their day in 8-10 sentences using at least 5 reflexive verbs. This is due on Thursday when they will share with the class.

Grade 10 worked on a vocabulary sheet for chapter 2, this homework is not finished. They also will work on the begining of l'imparfait. This was a big and difficult lesson and they will continue on Thursday with this.

Grade 10/11 shared their poem on their father and it was touching to hear their thoughts on this subject. BEWARE! Translating is ok for a word here and there but not the whole text.
This group also participated in the lesson on l'imparfait.
They also researched the Quebec's poet, writer, songwriter...Gilles Vigneault for our next reading.

Grade 12 student, Arav, is doing a marvelous job working his way through the Grade 12 Anthology. I will use next Thursday to discuss kwith him his reading and opinion on consumers and bio-diversity.
