NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER!   WELCOME BACK TO SJA!!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Madame Villeneuve and I will be teaching grades 8 to 12, MYP French, for the upcoming 2016-17 school year. I want to take this opportunity to welcome all students and parents to my SJA ‘French Corner’ classroom #22. I am excited about the new school year and looking forward to meeting all of you.

I have been teaching French for 14 years now, and although it is my second year at SJA, I have been teaching French at our sister-school The Maples in Orangeville for the last 12 years. Once again this year, I will alternate days between the two schools. Teaching French is not just a job for me, it is more like a vocation. I am passionate about my cultural background and always curious about the variety of cultural backgrounds here at SJA.

French is more than just grammar and rules (although they are important), it is about understanding and appreciating each other, connecting and communicating about real life situations, and yes, it has to be fun. I believe that all students can be successful in their own way, following their own path, through different phases, as IB lifelong learners, and it is the challenge and motivation I want to offer them. The IB World School (SJA) and the MYP programme is the perfect platform for this philosophy.

Although I will not have my own homeroom group of students this year, I will be moving between all homerooms to maintain genuine connections with everyone.

Please remember that my classroom door is always opened for everyone to have a conversation about the French programme. On the days that I am at The Maples, please send me an email at: jvilleneuve@stjudesacademy.com
Also, returning students know to check my blog on the school’s website, and I encourage new students and parents to check daily to stay in the loop with homework and events.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

GRADE 6 There was an assembly this morning, so there was just enough time to go through half of the class for the role play of an interview. So far, everyone did really well. The rest of the class will present the week of 25th. Next week, is MYP exams and there will not be any French class for that week. Ms Haag will be able to be with her class so it is all good.

Grade 7 The students were given the option to study for exam or work on their projects. This is a short oral presentation of an interesting career personality and their career path.

Grade 8 Students are studying for exams and/or preparing a short oral presentation on giving their opinion on GMO food. They will be able to have their notes with them while presenting but the focus really is on the delivery of their ideas.

Grade 9/10/11/12 will have some time to study and/or work on their oral presentation. They will be needed to move a few tables to set up the room for exams.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE ON YOUR EXAMS!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 6 The students returned to their working groups and composed their advertisement for part-time work. They demonstrated good collaboration skills and included all the requirements for their ad.
Homework for Tuesday, 12th, is to complete their translation in order to do the art work on Tuesday. Students exchanged emails and will be in contact should the need arise.

Grade 7 Mid term exams are fast approaching. The students were given instructions on what they should review. They also have a project on careers to submit for the week after the exam. More on this next week.

Grade 8 The students received their mid-term overview. Today's lesson was: futur simple. They will also have a short presentation to do right after exam week and this will count towards their cumulative task (oral/communication component). Next week is full review mode.

Grade 9 Students read unit 4 p.70-75. The were given their review package and some instructions with the presentation rubric. Next week, is full review mode.

Grade 10/11 Students were given the components to review for the mid-term exam. There was extra practice for the futur simple since so many students were absent before the break. Please remember that next week will be important (what week isn't?) since there is one more component 'futur  antérieur' to go over before the exam.

Grade 12 We went over the exam's segments and the components for the communication element.
